Everything in Moderation
The possibility that ibuprofen may help prevent Alzheimer’s is discussed in a recent entry on the blog Straight from the Doc. This would certainly be pretty incredible, but as with all things, there is a flip-side. Studies have shown that chronic use of ibuprofen may cause kidney disease, so is it really worth it to offset Alzheimer’s disease, but bring on kidney infection? It seems to me that you are screwed either way.
I guess, as my father always says, “everything in moderation.”
I am personally a huge fan of Advil, it works fast, and it works like a charm. But I try to avoid taking it unless I am really suffering from some serious aches and pains, or major swelling. I guess I can’t help but wonder about taking any medicine - prescription or over-the-counter - everyday for a lengthy period of time. I know that many people take aspirin everyday to ward off heart attacks, and of course, there are people that take anti-depressants everyday for years. You can’t help but wonder what that kind of build-up of medicine does to your body over time. In many cases it is for the greater benefit of your overall health, but how many people out there are just taking a mixed-bag of drugs on a daily basis for an extended period of time? That has to be hard on your kidneys and liver after a while.
